It's not a technical question. I'm sure there's a technical way that even my Java programmer friends could figure out (hah! Teasing!) Or
actually several technical ways. But NULL means Unknown. And there's no way to know if one unknown is equal to another unknown. X=Y? Just by
itself, there ain't no way. This is a theoretical argument that involves the definition of NULL in the SQL standard. We could get into Codd's
discussion on p'haps SQL is deficient 'cause you can't specify different kinds of NULL's. Like for instance, the unknown color of someone's eyes
versus the not-applicable color of the eyes of a car.
But I brought this all up just to give you something to think about and realize that yes, Santa Claus is a real possibility. After all, the
square root of negative one is a actual value that is used to measure phenomena. So anyway, Happy Holidays to everyone!
