The width applies to the display width on the terminal you are running bteq on. As such it isn't really meaningful to set it to a large value (unless you have a super wide screen :-).

I think it also applies to an exported report for the same reason. If you wish to export a larger record try one of the other formats (e.g. export data in which case the width doesn't apply).

Another possibility is to use a different tool such as SQL assistant.

What exactly are you trying to do?
