Hoo Boy, got a real interesting situation. Dieter quoted from the manual:
"but studies with more realistic customer data in the field indicate that the identical row on a 64-bit system is likely, on the average, to
see a size increase closer to 7 percent over its size on a 32-bit system"
So I looked it up in the manual (pg. 809 of the Database Design manual, pg 831 of the PDF file). Now I'm wondering if there's anyone out there
who's gone through the conversion and has some numbers they can quote me, so that we can be a little more prepared. I'm looking for some large
tables, converted over, and what kind of mileage people actually got (what percentage increase). We have a bit of a situation which is
complicating our next capacity increase, and we're tight already, so there's a lot of discussion about this particular subject in the last few
days. Thanks for anyone who can help!
