I have been asked to investigate BAR methods for our Teradata system. We currently use ArcMain on an MVS system through ESCON to do simple complete daily backups.

We have recently had occasion to look at incremental/partial archives but the Arcmain utility does not appear to have a "library" system to record what is backed up on each volume and searching daily backups for specific tables would be time consuming. Leasing MVS tapes also become cost prohibitive as number of volumes increases.

Has anyone discovered a process for backing up data that has an effective means of recording version contents? Does ArcMain have some method I'm missing? Does any use a disk SAN rather than tapes?
