Subj:   3710: Insufficient memory to parse this request, during Optimizer phase

From:   Mark Jahnke

Hi:

We are getting the error below suddenly with a Business Objects query. The Teradata Messages manual says to increase the DBS Control Record Field MaxParseTreeSegs - or simplify the request. Is that really the way to go? Has anybody encountered this lately?

Automation exception BusinessObjects server process raised an automation exception. (Error: BOMGR 0060) IDispatch error #109 Connection or SQL sentence error: (DA0005): [[NCR][ODBC Teradata Driver][Teradata RDBMS] Insufficient memory to parse this request, during Optimizer phase. -3710] The following data providers have not been successfully refreshed: Query 1 with GSReport. (DMA0007): [] (nbtbitools2p.nro.glic.com) (returned by function Refreshing Document) )

In one of the Forums I found the string below.....

Probable Cause: This error is an indication that the SQL request was more complex than the Teradata SQL Parser could process.

Solution: The first thing to try is to increase the DBS Control Record field: "MaxParseTreeSegs" . You should increase the value to the maximum (3000). If this fails to resolve the problem, you may need to simplify the request but, before you do this, try to collect or recollect statistics. The resulting plan may be simpler and may make a rewrite unnecessary. In at least one instance, the error resulted from corrupt statistics. In this case in which we encountered corrupt statistics, recollecting statistics resolved the problem.
