Subj:   Blanks and Coalesce behavior

From:   Castelli Emanuel Alejandro

Hi all.

I'm runnig a query like this:

     select
     coalesce(field1,'')

In some rows, filed1 have blanks as values. Example: ' ' (ten blanks).

For this values, the coalesce function is returning the alternate value, the ''.

Why does it happen if the value of filed1 is not null?

Thanks all.

Bye.
