Thank you for valuable replies where can I find or display the error messages to determine what actually failed ??

These are very basic questions, you should try reading the bteq manuals. Also, looking at the output of bteq will help. The error is displayed in the bteq output.

If you don't have a set of manuals, you can download individual manuals or manual sets (and a whole bunch of other stuff) from www.teradata.com.

Choose "Technical Documentation" from the "Resources" menu (top right of the display). A new window should open, then choose "Teradata tools and utilities" (TTU). You should choose a "TTU" set according to the version of the utilities that you have (e.g. version 8.2). Your site administrator should be able to tell you what version of TTU you are using. Alternatively locate the bteq manual corresponding to your version of bteq in the product selection. For the level of questions you are asking, any of them should do.
