Are you obligated to export the date out to a flat file?

What happens if you leverage the sys_calendar.calendar view?

     explain
     select *
     from staging.global_omniture_hit
        , sys_calendar.calendar
     where cast(omniture_date_time as date ) = calendar_date
       and calendar_date = date
     ;
