Subj:   Handling 21 digits in Teradata

Hi All

Currently we are using V2R5.1.. In one of our table we have defined our attribute as Decimal(18,2).

Now we are informed that there is a change and we will ge getting values of 21 digits (before decimal / inclusive of decimal) from the source.

I am aware that decimal(18,2) cant handle this .so thought of making the column to char(21) ..but I need to make computation on this column as well..so Char will also not work.

If I take Float there will be rounding issues..and since this project is totally financial based and reconcilation is needed .I cant afford to have that as well.

I went thru the archives in the forum to find a solution ..where there is only one ..to split the column into 2 ..which also will not work for me as I need to export the data out into a single field for my downstream applications.

I cant wait till we make an upgrade of the software to v2R6 as well.

Is there any way to achieve this .without rounding of data

Any help to overcome this issue is appreciated

Thanks a lot for all your help.
