OK, then you are not alone on R6. I thought you were on an earlier release when you said that the column you recently created was the only one
which deviated from the rest. Apparently, this was the fist column of this kind created in your DB. In R6, this behavior is typical as the meaning
of the data in ColumnLength changed.
You are right that the change was never documented in the Database Dictionary manual. What does not help either is that when you look at the
ColumnLength for standard DBC tables you still see the column lengths in their old meaning.
Probably this was meant as a surprise for users then. Not a bad idea to keep us entertained!
