Subj:   Stored procedure question

From:   Aepala, Haritha

Hi ALL,

I need help on stored procedure.

I have created a stored procedure that does the grants/revokes on the tables/databases. I am making use of dynamic SQL to do the grants.

It takes databasename , tablename ..etc as parameters. I am doing validations in the stored procedure NOT to allow performing certain grants. For this, I have logic and am sending the appropriate message through an output parameter. It is working fine with the output parameter. If the grant/revoke statement is successful, it displays successful message, in case of violations, it displays appropriate error message via output parameter so that user would know what error he/she made.

But I do not want to use output parameter and would like to like display appropriate message and make SP execution fail in case of errors. In case of successful execution, it should not return anything.

Is it possible to do that in SP?

If it is, do any one has example?

Thanks,

Haritha.
