Have never really done bench marking on this scenario?

While you are at it you should also try the upsert statement.

I assume collocated means same primary index. Is this correct?

Are you updating the primary index column? Try not updating the primary index column/columns.

Was the table contents the same before each test?

Was the system load identical?

A couple of seconds in my book is the same until you test the scenario many times as there can be other things happening on the system as it may even out noise from other factors.
