For all that may get similar problems with TTU8.1 and Perl-DBI: We found the cause (even if we do not understand it).

If you define a DSN named 'default', as predefined in the sample odbc.ini, the connection with any(!) DSN may use wrong configuration settings (in our case: using TTU7.1 mixed with TTU8.1), even if the default-DSN is configured correctly.

Solution: just drop all entries for DSN 'default', and it should work with TTU8.1.

I'm already very curious about NCR's explanation...
