With regards the Collect Statistics using sample, I have tried this on a table today with the following results:

     collect statistics using sample on tab1 column (txn_dte);

     Unique Values           Column
     1,798                   TXN_DTE

The original collect statistics on the table returns less unique values:

     COLLECT STATISTICS ON TAB1  COLUMN TXN_DTE
     ;
     Unique Values           Column
     793                     TXN_DTE

Can anyone explain how the using sample in collect statistics works, I was expecting a sample to return less unique values than a full table scan.
