I am trying to improve the time it takes to connect from some of our servers to the database. Once we connect, query performance is excellent, but the problem is that it can take anywhere from 10 to 30 seconds to connect. I have also noticed that for some reason, connectivity from my PC to the database is 'generally' 2 to 3 times faster than the connectivity from the server I am using as my test. This slowness appears both in bteq and odbc. First of all, to make sure that I have an even playing field, I have uninstalled all the Teradata drivers, etc from the server and installed the latest versions (per instructions) from the patch server. These are identical to the ones installed on my PC. I've asked our networking group for our DNS entries, and the following is what they tell me. We access the database using tdprod01, and from my understanding for a 6 node system this is correct, but wanted to include it in case it isn't. ------------------------------------------------------- All the following DNS records are Host (A) records, not aliases (CNAME): tdprod01cop1 - 207.152.233.91 tdprod01cop2 - 207.152.233.92 tdprod01cop3 - 207.152.233.103 tdprod01cop4 - 207.152.233.104 tdprod01cop5 - 207.152.233.108 tdprod01cop6 - 207.152.233.109 ------------------------------------------------------- I do purge all of the recommended dbc tables monthly and only keep a 2 month history. Any tips on improving connectivity time via ODBC and bteq would be greatly appreciated. Also any recommendations on things to tune, look at, etc would also be appreciated. What is the connectivity time that I should be expecting? My other databases (Oracle, Informix, SQL Server) connect without hesitation, so I am hopeful that this is a set up or networking issue.
