Subj:   Linux vs MPRAS

From:   Hassinger, Bill

Has anyone installed the LINUX 64 version of Teradata on NCR Worldmark hardware? It was noted earlier that MQ Series will no longer support MPRAS, and we have already found that Symantec Enterprise Security software stopped support a couple versions ago.

Although we have found it to be pretty much bullet-proof on our current platform, is MPRAS becoming "long in the tooth"? Do all utilities and programs that are on MPRAS exist on LINUX? Does LINUX support multiple nodes? Is there a lot of kernel/version maintenance with LINUX? Are there any other cons to this o/s selection? Is 64 bit the future trend we should pursue? Is LINUX more compatible with other platforms than MPRAS? Is there reduced purchase/maintenance cost with LINUX?

Any thoughts/experience would be appreciated.

Bill H
