I agree with whatever Mike suggested, it's a very bad idea to move data from any other database to Teradata with the same data model, it's better you re-model the schema to be closer to 3NF forms (remember Teradata is superman ! :) ) .

But more than often, customers won't be willing to pay the extra price associated with re-modelling. For them database migration is just change in vendors and performance should come via magic !! It's very important to convince them as to why we need to make use of 3NF schemas to make the better of Terdata's capabilities and flexiblities.

I have personally had a very bad experience of moving DB2 database to Terdata without remodelling because customer was the least concerned about our woes. The performance was miserable and in the end we ended up doing lots of overtime and unnecessary re-work to fix the things which should have been avoided at the first place.

  You will be much happier if you don't bring your Oracle habits to Teradata. You might consider taking some classes or reading books to learn good Teradata techniques.  


Cheers to that....... and yeah remember to drag your customer into the class as well if he is not budging ....
