Optimizing throughput and determining the number of sessions depends for data loads depends on the performance capacity and competing workload of the ETL server, bandwidth capacity and contention of the LAN, the throughput of the disk subsystem containing the data file(s), and the data row size. All of these factors determine how many sessions the Load Utility can keep active. A rule of thumb for the number of sessions use to be 8-12 sessions. But faster mid-range and blade servers, higher capacity dedicated LANs between the ETL servers and the Teradata, and the use Teradata Parallel Transporter should raise the number of sessions. Danny
