Check the Primary Index uniqueness. Too many values for a particular PI could cause extra time spent in the MERGE.

Volitile tables are created in a user's spool space. Check spool usage for each amp from dbc.allspace for the user (ie - select * from
dbc.diskspace where databasename = 'USERID'). Look at column 'CurrentSpool'.
