Subj:   Choosing Teradata Utilities

From:   David Clough

Hi all,

I've been asked to put together guidelines for choosing a particular load Utility for our impending new system.

I'd like to ask for your opinion on choice of Utility.

In the situation where we have a number of tables that are have either very low number of rows (hundreds) or just low (a few thousand) - and these would be loaded once per day - what load Utility would you choose?

It seems to me that both Fastload and Multiload are a bit over the top for such low volume. Also, TPump doesn't quite seem right because the data is not trickling through, it's just there in a file once per day.

I'm of the opinion that BTeq Import (using Upsert processing) is the correct 'Utility' (ok it's not strictly a Utility, I accept that) for this type of task.

Feel free to disagree, but I'd really like to know your reasoning.

Thanks in anticipation
