Subj:   Thumb rules for denormalization

Hello All,

1)Im not sure whether I should be asking the question here. But I want to know from all the masters here the thumb rules for denormalisation. I mean, given a 3NF database, say, how do I go about denormalising? Which are the fields that are likely candidates? Please throw some light on this and please point me to resources where I can find such info.

2)I have often read NCR docs claiming that teradata can give very good performance even for a fairly normalised schema. Is this possible for huge volumes of data? Is there a need to always resort to dimensional modelling?

Many thanks
