Wait! You can create the table and then do an alter when it's still empty. I suppose that you could EMPTY a table and then put PPI on it, then fill it up again (and restore the stats with TSET so that'd be faster). But as I understand it:

Rule of Broken Thumb: "Alter don't work when there's any kinda space change."
