No access to PERL or other languages & no access to UDFs, due to business constraints. Has to reside within standard sql script only, if
it had been as easy as using the right tool for the job I would have undertaken the work in SAS (my peered tool of 16 years) hence my request for
experiences of resolving such a request in SQL.
As I've now got it working using ungainly code I'll unhappily stick to using compound in-line queries using char_length, index and substr then,
unless anyone can post anything more useful.
