Subj:   Re: Primary index change on large volume of table

From:   Mohommod.Khan

Before you change your PI you will need to look for your data access process on that table.

Is the Index used for querying your data? If so, changing the indices may slow things down. You will need to check for skewness with the new Indices.

Also look for data distribution and volatility with the new index.

I just simply don't like the fact that you will need to change indexes due to application issues. Remember choosing the right Primary Index and using it proper way makes lots of differences. Any way, to answer your question on how to change index, you can create a new table using the following:

     create table my_Address_new  AS
     (Select ADDRESS_ID
     ,Address
     ,CITY
     from Address)  with data
     Unique Primary Index (ADDRESS_ID, Address);

Hope this helps.
