It may be due to the fact that you are now mixing a Unicode ODBC driver with a version of SQL Assistant that expects to be talking to a non- unicode driver. As a result there will be a lot of conversion to/from unicode going on.

If you use ODBC 3.4 you may find the SQL Assistant 7.0 (or 7.1) works better.
