Subj:   FastExport and the number of sessions vs. skewing

From:   Hassinger, Bill

I am performing my first large Fastexport job. I am using the windows version and the export file is about 300 million records and 60 gb. The data is well distributed with a skew factor of 0.

I have 100 gb of spool and the OUTLIMIT set to 10,000 rows. During "Select Request submitted to RDBMS" processing I ran out of spool. No rows have been written out so all rows must be staged before the output step.

My question: I have the sessions set to 8 min and 8 max. Is this causing skewing during staging, and would increasing to 20, 40, or 80 sessions (total number of AMPS) reduce the chance of running out? Or is increasing my allowed spool or breaking up the output to fewer rows through the WHERE clause the only solution?

Thanks

Bill H
