Dustin did not mention the type of activity in the requests or the frequency. This is not a holy way. There are better databases for OLTP applications, but Teradata can handle Active Data warehousing solutions? You can find all kinds of information about it. I know of at least one Teradata Active Data Warehouse, that runs 800,000+ tactical queries a day with average response times around .02 seconds. The information in the warehouse is used to return customer Relevant responses to the customer based on historical and current information. The customer actions resulting from the tactical query are then used to refine future 'touches' with the customer. This Active Data Warehousing approach was used to be able to use the most up to date information available without the headache of replicating data across several databases which introduces more risks and expenses. This is all done while servicing another 140,000 DSS requests and LOADS throughout the day. This is also done on a small sized Teradata system. Hope this will help encourage others to step outside the box and prove there is more than one way to skin the cat!!!! Thanks, Bob Diehl
