just to make sure I'm understanding it correctly.....

you have

     prod table as ct ...(col1...col2...col3 etc)
     and temp table as ct (col1...col2...col3 etc)
     and the insert is
     insert into temp select * from prod where.....?

is it possible that it's something in your where clause that's failing the conversion?
