Hi,

We have recently been trying to implement an automated PPI Maintenance job, to run weekly, dropping old partitions and adding new ones on a table approx. 500gb in size, which has both hash and join indexes.

However, we are running into one problem after another, particularly with blocking of any queries which access the table in which partitions are being changed, and slow performance for the Drop partition step.

Do Drop and Add partitions both take Exclusive locks on a table until that step of the job is complete??

Are there any sites out there who have successfully implemented PPI Maintenance jobs that would be happy to share their experience with us?
