I agree completely; this is as much a "tool" training issue as it is a "database" training one. The first time I saw Queryman was also the
first time I ever saw a Teradata database. The software was just thrown onto my PC and off I went. I've made many mistakes because of my
ignorance of both, but I try not to repeat them often and I learn something new every day.
For example, I did not know about the F11 key. I also think the error message placement in the bottom bar difficult to notice, and sometimes
not even there (because of my nervous mouse-moving habits). In the past, I just resubmit the query to get back to the error message. Today I've
not only leaned to use F11, but I've also learned that I can double-click on the query in the history window to see the message up close!
A simple one or two page introduction to SQL Assistant and the local Teradata environment is really helpful to new users. That's what we do in
my little end-user group, unaffiliated with IT/DW. In our case, it's more like a FAQ than a manual; it's updated and circulated as needed. How
do other sites do it?

BTW, Mike's comment about custom syntax files for standardized code it a great idea. It's yet another thing I learned today. However,
it would be "better" if I could have a different "custom.syn" file for different people (report writer have different needs than statistical
modelers). Anyway, it's worth investigation. Thanks for bring it up.
