The following is an exact equivalent of your Oracle function:

     select 'hello' || '0A'xc || 'world' from dual;

However, what you see in the output will depend on what application you are using to execute the query.

Since Windows uses '0D0A'xc as its line feed 'character' you might have to use that instead...and as you discovered ... that might not work either. (Because some products strip out the '0A' part for example)

Some products (including SQL Assistant) simply will not allow you to return a line feed within a column value. (It would screw up the grid output.)

Other's have suggested

     select 'hello
     world' from dual;

but that will not work in many apps either.

Your problem is with the application/interface you are using - not with your query.
