Subj:   Good practice programming in TD

From:   Mogilevsky, Boris

Recently we have been doing a lot of work in query 'fine tuning'. Unfortunately TD does not provide good tools for doing this, EXPLAIN is the only one we use and it is not very helpful.

There are several items to be pointed out:

We are replacing almost all volatile tables with permanent tables because of the inability to COLLECT STATS in volatile ones,

Adding numerous secondary indexes in order to avoid full tables scans, Replacing BTEQ's with MLOAD wherever it is possible.

Any other good techniques which will lower high CPU cycle number would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.
