USIs have their place. I typically use them when I have to join 2 tables and the USI I select is a different table's PI. It can then join and extract by rowid. One thing to remember is that Teradata is a special product that does not behave like any other RDMS. It requires special strtegies for building and maintaining the system. One thing to stay away from is a mountain of secondary indexes. This is not Oracle. Picking the correct PI usually eliminates the need for most secondary indexes. The load utilities handle the bulk of my updates as well. A good mix of multiload and tpump. Jeff Pankow - DW Architect
