Now that I have seen the original question. I have a few more comments. On you observation of the explain plans, you probably missed that a
redistribution of data occurred just before the join. Data has to amp local for any join. It is not very efficient to redistribute large
amounts of data.
Another possible reason is there was a secondary index or join index that covered the query with proper values or PI.
