Subj:   Re: Comma in string

From:   Victor Sokovin

I am looking for a way to count over to a comma in an address field that combines city, state and zip (10 characters including the '-') in order to remove the city and state and place them in their own fields. Any way to look for a comma in each row where the length of the string to the comma can vary?

Take a look at the POSITION function and/or check out the recent thread entitled "String parsing". The thread covers a more generic situation, which you don't seem to need, so don't get intimidated by all the SQL you might find there.

Regards,

Victor
