Subj:   Re: Maintaining Partitions Dynamically

From:   Howard Bradley

I have a problem in migrating one of my oracle script where the partition maintenance is happening dynamically, in oracle they are list partitioned and they are dropped using a procedure, where the partition and table name is passed as a parameter.

In teradata we have converted the same to case_n

Can any of you please suggest what approach i should take in order to over come this issue.

The approach I would suggest is :

1) Make a note of all the possible ways you can think of that might solve the problem (if you can't think of any the Teradata manuals are often quite useful as a starting point).

2) Develop and test each possible solution being careful to note which are the successful ones.

3) Evaluate all of the successful solutions on any other relevant criteria such as performance, site production standards, ease of future maintenance etc.

4) Decide which solution to adopt.

5) Implement the solution.

I am sure others will have different approaches but I find this works well for me.

Good luck

Howard
