Subj:   Recording downtime

We have a requirement to report on downtime for all our databases each month. In Oracle we use startup and shutdown triggers to write entries in a log table. For Ingres we scan the dbms log for specific startup and shutdown messages.

How can we track downtime in Teradata? I've tried looking through the software_event_log and while there are many events logged when a shutdown and a restart are done - I couldn't put my finger on any one that looked specifically like a shutdown or a startup message.

Any suggestions?

Not that we have much downtime at all for Teradata - but it is taken down occasionally for patching etc.
