Permanent jounals are not deleted automatically.

When you issue a checkpoint with save the saved journal can be deleted or archived.

There are 2 options after journal and before journal.

If a table is archived say on a Monday, after image jornals can be archived nightly. This requires less time for the archive process.

If a table needs to be restored (on a Thursday) it would be restored from the Monday dump, then one would restore Tuesdays journal roll forward with that and then the same for Wednesday. The current jounal (Thursday) is then used to roll forward.
