Subj:   Re: Constraints and indexes

From:   David Wellman

Hi,

1. Primary Index controls the distribution of data across the AMPs. Even data distribution is very important in temrs of performance in a Teradata environment. The more unique the primary index data values, the more even will be the distribution.

A Secondary Index (SI) is an alternate access path to the data. Using an SI to access the data avoids a full table scan.

The Database Design manual contains lots of details about indexes.

2. The relevant index will be created automatically.

Cheers,

Dave
