Hi, 1. Primary Index controls the distribution of data across the AMPs. Even data distribution is very important in temrs of performance in a Teradata environment. The more unique the primary index data values, the more even will be the distribution. A Secondary Index (SI) is an alternate access path to the data. Using an SI to access the data avoids a full table scan. The Database Design manual contains lots of details about indexes. 2. The relevant index will be created automatically. Cheers, Dave
