Bill,

I'm assuming you don't have any triggers and JOIN indexes defined to this base table . I'm pretty sure you tried all the option mentioned by Steve, Kyle and other persons .

Just curious to know the reason behind choosing TPUMP for UPDATE. To my knowledge its best to use the TPUMP utility if you are updating "small no: of rows" means less than 5 % of total rows ..have you tried changing the utility ?
