You indicate that dropping nusi's had little affect on update time, but was the blocking eliminated?

What is it blocking on? Were you able to catch the block in Session Info to see what is blocking what? Or, it could be caught with Locking Logger perhaps?

Have you tried it without the checkpoints? You can do by using a checkpoint value of 0.

Also, you can try a higher packfactor.

Overall, TPUMP isn't designed to be terribly fast in my opinion. Basically, it is similar to using a macro to insert/update a table in a multi-statement fashion.

At about 9 updates per second, I can see why you would be concerned though.
