1. Just as with any process running on any computer, you are performing I/O as well as consuming CPU cycles....

Obviously, the short answer to your question is yes....That said however, I think you will find that isolated fastload tasks do not make huge demands on the system CPU-wise but I/O is I/O and generally that is the first bottleneck most systems hit. If you intend to run multiple, concurrent load tasks then depending on how much and what capacity you have to start with you may need to examine the capacity of that platform more closely. Likewise, if you are doing more complicated ETL processing there, such as with a third-party tool like Ascential or Microstrategy, then the demands on the staging platform can be significant...
