Single column statistics go in DBC.TVFields regardless of whether the column has an index or not. Multiple column statistics go in DBC.Indexes even if there is no index on the columns. (We define a dummy index if there is none but don't build a secondary index subtable.) I am aware of no redundancty, but it would be an interesting thing to check into.
