Subj:   Re: Capacity planning - Freespace Percent

From:   LeBlanc, James

Right, Transient Journal (TJ) can do just that. Some advise to keep transactions using TJ short, limited to 20 minutes as rollback will take longer than that. Next thought, some also to set DBSControl to run rollback at user priority. See the Utilities Manual for an in-depth discussion on DBSControl.

Notes from a Teradata architect on the TJ subject and space consumption:

Several IMPORTANT System tables like the TJ are allowed to bypass the DBC check for freeperm and are allowed to insert regardless of the value of freeperm. This can cause the value of DBC freeperm to become negative.

Hopefully these periods of negative FREEPERM in DBC are short lived. If not you should reallocate some of your users and give more PERM to DBC. Or clean up you resusage tables to free up some PERM space within DBC.

Again remember it is possible for FREEPERM to be negative on one amp and not another.

Best Regards,

Jim LeBlanc
