Most applications will accept the following: Where lastname = 'o''reilly' but not necessarily: Where lastname = "o'reilly"c The first syntax is fairly common - 'double up' the single quote (2 single quotes) if it occurs within a quoted string. (For database vendors who enclose their strings in double quotes you would normally 'double up' the double quote character.) The second syntax is unique to Teradata I think. Since SQL Assistant (Queryman) is a generic tool I prefer to stay away from 'special' cases unless I have no alternative. If you are using Queryman you should therefore use the first syntax shown above. Mike Dempsey
