I tried with FORMAT TEXT and also with FORMAT VARTEXT but in vain.

Is there a problem here....

.LAYOUT UsingData;
.FIELD scandesc * char(10);

The data in the INPUTDAT.TXT is of length 10 but the actual field size in the table is varchar(30). So I tied changing to

.LAYOUT UsingData;
.FIELD scandesc * char(30); but still no use.
