Although the word "join" appears twice there is only one join happening.

The first really just means that all amps are involved in the processing, the second one ("merge join" in thise case) is how Teradata is joining the two objects. This will tell you for instance whether Teradata is performing an outer join or an inner join, or whether there's a product join going on.
