What version of the DBMS are you running? I found a similar sort of condition with V2R5.00.00.16 where before collecting stats everything
was fine in a similar type of join. After collecting stats I got an error stating that Teradata could not perform the join! Dropping stats
was the only alternative. It has something to do with column stats on non-indexed tables. I think there is a DR on this phenomena.
