We tried clustering but had to stop.

The back up would start using 2 drives and it might backup 15 Clusters completely, but sometimes Cluster 1 or Cluster 2 of the back up would hang and never finish leaving a lock on a table, often over a weekend. No error message, no nothing, just stopped.

Then at night during the workweek when we tried to fastload the table from the mainframe, the fastload would hang waiting for the backup lock to be released. It was intermittent, sometimes once a week or just twice a month, but occasionally a couple times a week. There were no error messages from the fastload - it too just sat there without using any percentage of the mainframe processors, etc. Because of the randomness and lack of any clear error pattern it would often take several hours for us to wise up to what was happening. So after extensive frustration, we quit clustering altogether.
