Subj:   TDQM 4.3 Requirements on Teradata 4.1.3

From:   Maynard, Stephen L

We are planning to implement Teradata Dynamic Query Manager 4.3 on Teradata 4.1.3 for the purpose of query resource/rule management (not scheduling). I need answers to these questions:

1. Are there TDQM software packages that are necessary to be installed on the Teradata MP-RAS nodes for this implementation to be successful, and if so, what are the package names? I have been getting conflicting information regarding this question from several sources, and absolutely NO documentation anywhere available to man refers to this requirement. (DBQM 4.2 had packages dbqmcli and dbqmsrv that were on the MP-RAS TUF6.1.0 client software CD, but I don't know what purpose they served.)

2. What effect will enabling the DBQM general setting in DBSControl (EnableDBQM=True) have on the system when the TDQM/DBQM database has NOT yet been created or integrated via TDQM Administrator (or if the software in question 1 is not installed)? Will queries be prevented from executing? Will query response times be adversely affected if there is no restriction/rules database to search? (If you can, please refrain from the obvious reply, "Why in the world would you want to do that anyway?" Then I will refrain from using the old parental standby, "Because." :-) )

3. If TDQM software is indeed necessary on the Teradata nodes (i.e. Answer#1=Yes), what purpose does it serve?

Thanks for your help.
